HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-2006-038-R-06• 5/16/2006 38-R-06 A RESOLUTION Designating the Portion of Lee Street Between Elmwood Avenue and Maple Avenue with the Honorary Name, "Rev. Hardist E. Lane Ways' WHEREAS, Reverend Hardist E. Lane is a strong humanitarian advocate for peace and justice, whose ministry at the Fisher Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Evanston, Illinois, extends to outreach work both denominationally and ecumenically; and WHEREAS, Rev. Lane's ministries include: • the "Circuit Court of Cook County Client Advocate" program providing prison deterrence through personal counseling and advocacy for young men and women; the "Fresh Start" program assisting individuals previously incarcerated and released find a wholesome lifestyle; the "First Base" program securing essential services for victims of temporary and/or chronic homelessness; the "Families -in -Transition" program assisting low income families deal with emergency food, shelter, and shut-off situations, as well as complete their education; and 0 WHEREAS, in 2006, Rev. Lane is completing his 35th year devoted to caring for countless distressed individuals and families within the Fisher Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, within the Evanston community, and beyond; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That appreciation is hereby expressed to Rev. Lane for his thirty-five years of life -enhancing service to the City of Evanston by designating with the honorary name "Rev. Hardist E. Lane Way" that portion of Lee Street lying between Elmwood Avenue and Maple Avenue. SECTION 2: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. Lorraine H.
