A RESOLUTION
To Establish the
North Shore Lake Michigan Initiative
WHEREAS, Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, is the
source of freshwater and essential to the quality of life and economic vitality of
communities along its shore.
WHEREAS, the following twelve north shore communities have a
common interest in preserving and improving the quality of Lake Michigan
and its shoreline:
City of Evanston, City of Lake Forest, Village of
Wilmette, Village of Lake Bluff, Village of Kenilworth,
City of North Chicago, Village of Winnetka, City of
Waukegan, Village of Glencoe, City of Zion, City of
0 Highland 'ark, and the Village of Winthrop Harbor.
WHEREAS, cities throughout the Great Lakes region have
established the Great Lakes Cities Initiative to work toward restoring and
preserving the Great Lakes' ecosystem by providing input for decision making
about the Great Lakes.
WHEREAS, our North Shore communities will be more effective at
providing input about decisions regarding Lake Michigan and its shoreline by
speaking with a common voice.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
ASECTION 1: That the foregoing recitals are hereby found as fact
and made a part hereof.

SECTION 2: That our Illinois North Shore Lake Michigan
communities establish the North Shore Lake Michigan Collaborative. •
SECTION 3: That our communities will work together through the
North Shore Lake Michigan Collaborative to identify Great Lakes issues of local
and common interest.
SECTION 4: That our communities will commit to cooperating with
one another in addressing these issues.
SECTION 5: That the North Shore Lake Michigan Collaborative
will establish goals and set up a structure to provide input to the Great Lakes
Cities Initiative, The Great Lakes Strategic Action Plan, and other organizations
and projects established to improve the Great Lakes and, specifically,
Lake Michigan.
SECTION 6: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect •
from and after the date of its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
