A RESOLUTION
Rejecting the Application for Landmark Designation of
the Building at 2408 Orrington Avenue, Wesley Hall
WHEREAS, the City has enacted a Historic Preservation
Ordinance ("Ordinance"), Title 2, Chapter 9 of the City Code of the City of
Evanston, 1979, as amended; and
2-9-1; and
WHEREAS, the purposes of the Ordinance are set forth in Section
WHEREAS, the designation of certain properties as Landmarks is a
means to accomplishing these and other purposes of the Ordinance set forth in
• Section 2-9-1; and
WHEREAS, 'Section 2-9-3(G)2 of the Ordinance charges the
Preservation Commission with investigating and making recommendations to the
City Council or its duly authorized Committee concerning the adoption of
ordinances designating areas, properties, structures, sites and objects as
Landmarks and Districts with final action on landmark designation reserved to the
discretion of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Preservation Commission considered the
application submitted on June 11, 2004 for the designation of the building at
2408 Orrington Avenue, Wesley Hall as an Evanston Landmark; and

WHEREAS, the Preservation Commission conducted public •
hearings on July 20, 2004, August 17, 2004, September 14, 2004, October 26,
2004, November 30, 2004, and December 6, 2004, regarding said application,
pursuant to Section 2-9-5 of the Ordinance; and
WHEREAS, the Preservation Commission adopted a Resolution
"Requesting the City Manager to Transmit the Evanston Preservation
Commission's Recommendation and Report that the City Council Designate the
Building at 2408 Orrington Avenue, Wesley Hall as an Evanston Landmark" at its
meeting on December 6, 2004; and
WHEREAS, the Planning and Development Committee of the City
Council considered the Record and Recommendation of the Preservation
Commission and the proposed Ordinance 122-0-04 which, if enacted, would •
grant the aforedescribed landmark designation; and
WHEREAS, at its April 11, 2005 meeting, the Planning and
Development Committee considered proposed Ordinance 122-0-04 and voted to
recommend City Council rejection of the application for landmark
designation; and
WHEREAS, Ordinance 122-0-04 did not receive the requisite six
votes for passage at the City Council's April 12, 2005 meeting; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-9-5(G) 1 of the Ordinance, provides that City
Council rejection of an application for landmark designation shall be

• NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
part hereof.
SECTION 1: The above recitals are found as facts and made a

building at 2408 Orrington Avenue, Wesley Hall, as an Evanston Landmark,

from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
