A RESOLUTION
Designating Portions of Clark Street and Oak Avenue
with the Honorary Name, "Rev. John F. Norwood Place"
WHEREAS, Resolution 39-R-96 established an Honorary Street Name Sign
Program to honor certain individuals who have contributed greatly to the City of
Evanston through cultural, historic, or humanitarian acts; and
WHEREAS, the Rev. John F. Norwood has served the Mt. Zion Baptist Church
at 1113 Clark Street since 1971 as its Pastor and Minister; and
WHEREAS, the Rev. Norwood has guided his congregation in carrying on the
tradition it established in 1895 of harmony among its members and ministration to the
-* spiritual and physical needs of the citizens of Evanston; and
WHEREAS, the Rev. Norwood has reached out to the youth of the community
with inspirational, tutorial, and study programs, and
WHEREAS, the Rev. Norwood has served as Chief Financial Officer for the
United Methodist Church of America, Board Member of District #65, President of Family
Focus - Our Place, President of the N.A.A.C.P., President of the Evanston Ministerial
Alliance, and serves as spiritual counsel to the Evanston Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the Rev. Norwood's public service has enriched the quality of life of
the citizens of the City; and

WHEREAS, the City wishes to proclaim and acknowledge the contributions of
the Rev. Norwood to the City,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Evanston, Cook County, Illinois:
SECTION 1: That appreciation is hereby expressed to the Rev. John F. Norwood
for his service to the City of Evanston by designating with the honorary name, " Rev.
John F. Norwood Place", that portion of Clark Street from Ridge Avenue to Oak Avenue
and that portion of Oak Avenue from Clark Street to Church Street.
SECTION 2: That this resolution be made a part of the permanent records of the
City of Evanston and that a copy, executed by the Mayor and attested to by the City
Clerk, be sent to the Rev. John F. Norwood. •
SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after
the date of its passage and approval in the manner required by law. -�
