HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS-1997-069-R-978/ 14/97 8/26/97 • 69-R-97 A Resolution Declaring September Unity Month WHEREAS, the residents of Evanston represent a racially diverse population that results in a culturally rich environment; and WHEREAS, Evanston's diversity serves as the foundation for its greatness as it mirrors the diversity of our nation; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Evanston should celebrate their racial and cultural diversity; and WHEREAS, the need exists for each citizen to respect, recognize and appreciate Evanston's racial and cultural differences; and • WHEREAS, it is time for Evanston residents to reject racism, divisive attitudes and behaviors, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1: That the City Council of Evanston does hereby and henceforth declare September to be Unity Month - a celebration of Evanston's racial and cultural diversity. SECTION 2: That this resolution shall be forwarded to all churches, synagogues, religious institutions, school districts, community groups and organizations in the City of Evanston, accompanied by correspondence from the Evanston Human Relations Commission. 0 69-R-97 SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. • \ Mayor ATTEST: Adopted: Sq&4'R' , 1997 2 is
