A Resolution
Supporting the Ratification
of the United Nation's Convention
on the Elimination of all Forms
of Discrimination Against Women
WHEREAS, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination
Against Women (CEDAW) is rooted in the goals of the United States and the United
Nations to affirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the
human person, and in equal rights of men and women; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston with its forward -looking leadership, its ethnic
• and racial diversity, and its outstanding cultural and educational institutions, is working
to eliminate discrimination;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of Evanston adopt the CEDAW so that its
provisions for equality for women, in all parts of human endeavor, will be a defining
statement and a goal and a standard of conduct for all in Evanston.
SECTION 2: That the City Council of Evanston send a copy of this resolution to
the Senate Foreign Relations Committee urging them to pass this treaty favorably out
of committee to be ratified by the United States Senate, and

SECTION 3: That the City Council of the City of Evanston send a copy of this
resolution to the President of the United States, the Secretary of State, each member of
the US Senate and to the Illinois delegation in the US House of Representatives
accompanied by a letter of support on City stationery.
SECTION 4: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after
the date of its passage and approval
