A RESOLUTION
Supporting a Village of Wilmette Application
to the Illinois Department of Transportation
for Federal Funding of a Bikeway through Evanston
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston is committed to providing bikeways which
can be utilized by both recreational cyclists as well as commuters; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston demonstrates this commitment through the
development of a series of existing and proposed bikeways outlined on a map entitled
"Welcome to Evanston Bikeways"; and
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston recognizes the value of connecting
• Evanston bikeways to neighboring bikeways to the north and the south of our community;
and
WHEREAS, the development of a bikeway connecting Evanston cyclists with
the Green Bay Trail would be consistent with the proposed routes outlined in Evanston's
bikeways map; and .
WHEREAS, the City of Evanston supports the study of a bikeway which
would link Evanston cyclists with a bikeway along the north shore channel or other
accessible rights -of -way in near proximity to the channel, providing access to Gillson Park
in Wilmette and other recreational facilities along Sheridan Road; and
WHEREAS, the Northeastern Illinois Regional Greenways Plan shows a need
for a bikeway linking Evanston to the Green Bay Trail;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THEO
CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS that the City of Evanston
enthusiastically supports an application submitted by the Village of Wilmette to the Illinois
Department of Transportation for federal funds for a feasibility study and. design of a
bikeway which would connect Evanston cyclists to the Green Bay Road trail and study the
feasibility of a bikeway along the North Shore Channel toward Sheridan Road, with the
financial participation by the City of Evanston not to exceed $10
