A RESOLUTION
Canvassing the Results of the General Election
held on November 3, 1992, and Declaring the
Results of Said Election
WHEREAS, on the Third day of November, 1992, a general
election was held in and for the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois, for the
purpose of conducting an advisory referendum to determine if the electors of the City of
Evanston should ask the City Council to establish a liquor license classification which
allows the retail sale of unrefrigerated beer and wine in original packages for
consumption off the premises in grocery stores greater than 12,000 square feet,
but less than 60,000 square feet in the City of Evanston; and to conduct a binding
referendum on whether the,City of Evanston shall elect the Mayor of the City of the City
of Evanston in the following manner commencing with the election to be held in 1993 and
thereafter: If more than two candidates for Mayor shall have filed for election, a
primary shall be held and the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall
stand for election in the Regular Election, except if one condidate shall receive more
than fifty percent (50%) of the votes cast at the primary, that candidate shall have
been elected Mayor for a term commencing the first City Council meeting after the
Regular Election.
WHEREAS, said general election was regularly called in the
manner provided by law: and
WHEREAS, the official Canvassing Board consisting of the
Mayor, the City Clerk and the City Attorney for the City of Evanston, find from the
returns of said general election that the following votes were cast for the advisory and
binding referenda indicated:

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EVANSTON, ILLINOIS:
The undersigned, having been duly notified by City Clerk Kirsten F.
Davis, to canvass the vote in the General Election held on November 3, 1992, for the
purpose of conducting an advisory referendum to determine if the electors of the City of
Evanston should ask the City Council to establish a liquor license classification which
allows the retail sale of unrefrigerated beer and wine in original packages for
consumptionoff the premises in grocery stores greater than 12,000 square feet,
but less than 60,000 square feet in the City of Evanston, reports that it has canvassed
the vote with respect to said referendum and reports the results .as follows:

The Canvassing Board, therefore, finds that the advisory referendum to
determine whether the electors of the City of Evanston shall ask the City Council to
establish a liquor license classification which allows the retail sale of unrefrigerated
beer and wine in original packages for consumption off the premises in grocery stores
greater than 12,000 square feet, but less than 60,000 square feet in the City of
Evanston, passed.
The undersigned, having been duly notified by City Clerk'Kirsten F.

TherCanvatsing Board, therefore, finds that the binding referendum to
'determine if the City of Evanston shall elect the Mayor of the City of the City of
Evanston in the following manner commencing with the election to be held in 1993 and
thereafter: If more than two candidates for Mayor shall have filed for election, a
primary shall be held and the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall
stand for election in the Regular Election, except if one condidate shall receive more
than fifty percent (50%) of the votes cast at the primary, that candidate shall have
been elected Mayor for a term commencing the first City Council meeting after the
Regular Election, passed.
The Canvassing Board submits the foregoing reports as the complete
returns and canvass of the results of the votes cast in the General Election on November
3, 1992, on the advisory referendum and the binding question of public policy.

SECTION 1: That by reason of said vote, the City Council
declares that the referenda to determine if the electors of the City of Evanston should
ask the City Council to establish a liquor license classification which allows the
retail sale of unrefrigerated beer and wine in original packages for consumption off the
premises in grocery stores greater than 12,000 square feet, but less than 60,000 square
feet in the City of Evanston; and whether the City of Evanston shall elect the Mayor of
the City of Evanston in the following manner commencing with the election to be held in
1993 and thereafter: If more than two candidates for Mayor shall have filed for
election, a primary &hall be held and the two candidates receiving the highest number of
votes shall stand for election in the Regular Election, except if one condidate shall
receive more than fifty percent (50%) of the votes cast at the primary, that candidate
shall have been elected Mayor for a term commencing the first City Council meeting after
the Regular Election, passed.
SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby'made a permanent
part of the records of the City Council of the City of Evanston, Cook County, Illinois.
