A Resolution
Authorizing the Establishment of a
Sister City Relationship with
Belize City, Belize
WHEREAS, Sister City programs are designed to improve
relations and communications between Americans and people of
.other lands, to establish lasting two-way relationships from
which international friendship and understanding can grow, and to
develop a united strength to maintain world peace; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Evanston
desires to establish a Sister City relationship between the City
of Evanston and Belize City, Belize; and
WHEREAS, officials of Belize City have expressed
interest in the establishment of a Sister City relationship
between Belize City and the City of Evanston; and
WHEREAS, it is the hope of the City Council of the City
of Evanston that the establishment of a Sister City relationship
with Belize City will lead to the exchange of information and
ideas between the two communities which will benefit both the
residents of the City of Evanston and Belize City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF EVANSTON, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That the City Council of the City of
Evanston authorizes the establishment of a
Sister City relationship with Belize City, Belize.

SECTION 2: That the Mayor of the City of Evanston is
authorized to negotiate an agreement between
Belize City and the City of Evanston to effect a Sister City
relationship.
SECTION 3: That such an agreement shall include
provisions for exchange of official
delegations and citizen delegations between the two parties, and
regular exchange of general information which will promote mutual
acquaintance with the daily experiences of each party, including
such areas as municipal government, the arts, commerce, healing
arts, law, and education.
SECTION 4: That this Resolution shall be in full force
and effect from and after the date of its
passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
